Over 5,000 Women in Ogun State on Monday formally endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in office, stressing that his administration focus on pro-women policies and inclusive leadership of female gender in the country.
The women also unanimously backed the Senatorial aspiration of Governor Dapo Abiodun, describing him as an experienced representative that would attract more developmental gains for the sustained development of the Ogun East Senatorial District
The endorsement was made during the 2026 International Women’s Day (IWD) celebration, organized by the State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, at the Royal Pavilion, Ijebu-Ode, had in attendance female political office holders drawn from across the twenty Local Government Areas of the State.
Speaking at the event, the Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, declared the unflinching support of Ogun women for the re-election of President, urging the women to use their numerical strength to bring back Tinubu to the seat of power the second time.
Salako-Oyedele who described the president’s Renewed Hope Agenda as impactful and inclusive, particularly for women, called increased women participation in politics.
” The Policies of President Tinubu and Governor Dapo Abiodun led administrations at the Federal and State levels have significantly benefited women, with the records of measurable gains in social inclusion, economic participation, and access to opportunities. We are very proud of them and we pledge our unflinching support for them as they move on to the next level” she said.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Motunrayo Adeleye, while corroborating political solidarity for Tinubu and Abiodun, said that the massive turnout of women reflected growing unity, resilience, and influence in public life.
Adeleye divulged that the 2026 IWD celebration coincided with activities marking the 50th anniversary of the creation of Ogun State, describing the milestone as a reminder of women’s consistent contributions to the state’s growth over the past five decades.
She attributed the achievements being celebrated to deliberate leadership and inclusive policies at both federal and state levels, commending the president for reforms aimed at economic recovery and inclusive growth, as well as Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun for sustaining women-focused initiatives under the ISEYA development agenda.
Adeleye, while acknowledging the contributions of the First Lady of the Federation, Oluremi Tinubu, through the Renewed Hope Initiative, alongside the Ajose Foundation of the State First Lady, Bamidele Abiodun, said that both initiatives had strengthened women empowerment interventions in the state.
She urged the women to translate their population strength into effective political participation by using the Permanent Voters’ Cards to vote in Tinubu and the governor into their aspiring political positions, stressing that sustained progress depends on active engagement in the electoral process.
The commissioner said ” Women have remained central to Ogun’s development through family stability, commerce, community building, and increasing participation in governance and the private sector”.
“The responsibility for a greater future rests not only on our shoulders but on our Permanent Voters’ Cards. Women must remain united and support leaders who recognise their value and contribution to governance,” she noted
Adeleye also announced the empowerment of 50 women with 200,000 cash grants and 500 women for 50,000 thousand naira cash grant respectively.
Speaking on the theme: “Give to Gain”, the Former Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Senator Abiodun Olujimi, described the theme as timely and issued a clarion call for Nigeria to dismantle systemic barriers keeping women at the periphery of power, noting that the current two per cent female participation in politics represents a national crisis that needed to be addressed by all and sundry.
Olujimi stressed that “International Women’s Day is not just a celebration but a moment for deep reflection on the structural reforms required to secure the future of the Nigerian girl-child”
She argued that existing social and legal frameworks kept failing Nigerian women, likening the collective strength of women to a circle“unbreakable and undefeated.”
The Former Deputy Governor, however, charged women to identify, support, and stand by credible leaders, referencing the inclusive governance style of President Tinubu and Governor Abiodun, while emphasising the need for women to support one another politically and socially.
Meanwhile, the honourable commissioner for women affairs also announced the empowerment of 50 women with 200,000 two hundred thousand cash grants and 500 women for 50, 000 thousand naira cash grant respectively
