2027: Abiodun not sponsoring my guber ambition, Isiaka clarifies

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun

The lawmaker representing Yewa North/Imeko-Afon Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Gboyega Isiaka, has denied the speculations that Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, was sponsoring his governorship ambition for the 2027 elections in the state.

Isiaka, fondly called GNI by his political admirers, said his decision to contest for the number one seat in the state for the fourth time was driven by his personal desire to govern the state, not pressure from the incumbent governor or political leaders.

He said this yesterday, during a media briefing in Abeokuta, the Ogun State Capital, stressing that he remained the most qualified to become the next governor of the state come 2027 elections.

The federal lawmaker dismissed the notion that leaders in the state had concluded plans that the governorship seat would be occupied by a certain individual.

Meanwhile, Isiaka has said that the House of Representatives is set to organise a national workshop to align the federal budgeting process with Nigeria’s National Planning and Economic Development blueprint.

Isiaka, who is Chairman of the House Committee on National Planning and Economic Development, spoke against a backdrop of the country’s budgeting system and 2027 governorship in the state, emphasising the need for the nation’s budget process to “perfectly align” with national planning goals to foster development.

He said that the upcoming workshop is designed to address existing imperfections in the budgeting system.

Isiaka attributed the upward-looking economy and rising investors’ confidence to the bold reforms of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and stressed the need to sustain this positive trajectory to fast-track economic growth.
