A brewing crisis within the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide has taken a fresh dimension, with four executive committee members levelling allegations against their president, Jonathan Lokpobiri. The accusations include high-handedness, abuse of power, and financial misdeeds.
The dissenting national officers, comprising Secretary-General, Maobuye Nangi Obu; National Women Leader, Miracle Iyaye; National Legal Adviser, Tamunotonye David; and National Deputy Director of Mobilisation, Abiye Bob-Manuel, briefed the media yesterday in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
They urged security agencies to investigate Lokpobiri’s role in the recent violence and killings that marred the IYC Eastern Zone’s elections.
This is as the body yesterday renewed the call for the implementation of the 2014 National Conference Report and reiterated its call for the restructuring of Nigeria, adding that it is the only visible antidote in addressing the many woes bedeviling Nigeria as a country.
The council said ethnic-based agitations will continue to fester because the country is yet to draft an all-inclusive constitution, adding that the 2014 National Conference remains the only visible attempt in recent times that truly included the input of every region and tribes in Nigeria on the way forward for Nigeria.
A statement signed by its spokesman, Binebia Princewill, stated that the 2014 National Conference, tagged 2014 CONFAB set up by former President Goodluck Jonathan, made some very vital recommendations on how Nigeria can be restructured to achieve greater success as a nation.
The council also reiterated its call on President Bola Tinubu to quickly address the lingering hardship faced by Nigerians, adding that Government must be seen taking steps that will alleviate the enormous sufferings of the people.
