
As Liberia’s presidential run-off is held today, Head of ECOWAS Electoral Observation Mission (EOM), Prof. Attahiru Jega, has advised observers to respect existing local and international electoral laws.
He also cautioned them against inference in the whole process, but urged deployment of acquired skills and tools.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ex-chair equally encouraged the monitors to offer recommendations to improve the electoral process and the mission.
Ambassador Josephine Nkrumah, while addressing the observers, reminded them of the current political and electoral tempo under which the election was holding.
Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security of ECOWAS, Dr. Abdul-Fatau Musah, who relished the calibre of persons in the team, urged impartiality and timely reports from the field to enrich the mission’s overall outcome.
He arrived in Monrovia last Thursday to meet with some actors and stakeholders.
On Friday, Jega successfully met with Liberia’s Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Liberia, Frank Musa Dean Jr., President of the National Electoral Commission (NEC), Mrs. Davidetta Browne-Lansanah, some civil society actors and the ECOWAS Technical Team.
During the meetings, the Nigerian harped on free, transparent and credible exercise.
