Kaduna peace commission begins 2025 Interfaith harmony campaign
As part of activities leading up to the 2025 United Nations International Interfaith Harmony Week, the Kaduna State Peace Commission has launched its Interfaith Harmony Campaign on Monday in Kaduna.
The event was led by Pastor Yohanna Buru, the 2022 recipient of the UN World Interfaith Harmony Award, who was joined by a delegation of Muslim and Christian leaders, as well as traditional rulers.
The delegation visited the commission’s office at the Kaduna State House, ‘Gen. Hassan House’ to commend its efforts in promoting peaceful coexistence and religious tolerance.

Buru expressed gratitude to the commission and the Kaduna State Government for their work in fostering unity.
The clergy referenced the commission’s 2024 report, which recorded no conflicts across the state as a notable achievement.
Buru described the week as a vital platform for strengthening ties among faith-based organizations and fostering mutual understanding.
“The week allows interfaith groups to showcase their work, build ties, and avoid duplication of efforts,” he said.
Similarly, Imam Iliyasu Hussani, the former Chief Imam of Uduwa and current Morshid of Kaduna State Jama’atul Nasrul Islam, applauded the commission for mediating peace and encouraging inter-religious dialogue.

He urged religious and community leaders to work collectively to sustain the state’s peace and stability.
The acing Executive Vice Chairman of the commission, Hajiya Khadija Hawaja , reiterated its commitment to promoting peace across Kaduna’s 23 local governments, in collaboration with civil society and corporate organizations.

She thanked the delegation and officially launched the 2025 campaign.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports the week was introduced by King Abdullah II of Jordan in 2010.
NAN further reports that the week will be observed globally from February 1 to 7, with this year’s theme emphasizing love, goodwill, and cooperation among all faiths
