The Kaduna State Urban Planning and Development Authority (KASUPDA) has urged residents of Rigasa Community to obtain building permits to ensure public health and safety.

Its Director-General, Mr Abdurrahman Yahya, gave the advice on Saturday, at a stakeholders engagement in Rigasa Community, Igabi Local Government Area.

Yahya said the engagement was part of the agency’s initiative aimed at sensitising communities on the ease of obtaining building permits, in developed areas through regularisation.

He revealed that Rigasa Community had been categorised by the government as an approved regularised area.

Yahya called on the traditional leaders to educate their communities on the need to obtain building permits for their various houses.

Mr Nasiru Bello, the Head, Regularisation Unit of the agency, said that the planning permit process had been simplified, allowing for approval within two to three weeks.

Bello also said that the government had subsidised penalty charges for residential buildings in the regularised areas, with new rates ranging from N50,000 to N150,000; payable within three months.

In his remark, the District Head of Rigasa, Mr Mohammed Idris, commended KASUPDA and the state government for their commitment to the development of the area.

Idris assured the agency that the message would be delivered to the targeted communities through the traditional title holders, community associations, youth associations and other agents.

He also encouraged the people to obtain the building approvals and adhere to regulations, assuring 100 per cent support from his community.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the event featured an interactive session that addressed issues of regularisation processes and penalty fees, among others.
