KAI demolishes 138 shanties, dislodges 169 illegal occupants in Ajao Estate
The Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), known as Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI), yesterday demolished 138 shanties and evicted 169 illegal occupants from the Ajao Estate Canal bank area.
Corps Marshal Major Olaniyi Olatunbosun Cole (rtd) disclosed that intelligence reports revealed the existence of shanties along the canal banks, where illegal occupants were paying rents ranging from N60,000 to N100,000 to a syndicate.
Cole expressed concern over the public health risks and safety hazards posed by the encampments, which he described as breeding grounds for infectious diseases and social vices. He assured the agency remains committed to making Lagos cleaner and more conducive for business activities.
The Corps Marshal also urged Lagos residents to avoid illegal encampments, warning that further demolitions would be carried out as other infractions are identified.
