Bayero, Sanusi appoint two men to same emirate position
The Kano State Judicial Service Commission has suspended Principal Registrar II of the High Court of Justice, Ibrahim Adamu, for six months without salary and deferred promotion for verbal assault and an attempt to engage in physical combat with a superior officer. He was suspended alongside another Principal Registrar of the Sharia Court of Appeal, Maigida Lawan.
The commission also queried two Upper Sharia Court Judges for various offences bordering on judicial impropriety. On Sunday, the Kano emirship tussle took a new twist as Aminu Ado-Bayero and Lamido Sanusi appointed separate men to fill the position of Galadiman Kano, made vacant by Abbas Sanusi’s death.
The suspended High Court of Justice Principal Registrar II, who reportedly committed similar violence-related offences and served with a series of queries, was found guilty of gross misconduct and necessitated a sanction against him.
Lawan was found guilty of demanding and accepting improper gratification under false pretences. The commission demoted him from GL-13 to GL-12 and suspended him for six months without pay.
The commission considered the disciplinary action during the recent 80th meeting, where the recommendations of the investigation conducted by the Judiciary Public Complaints Committee were adopted.
Judge of the Upper Sharia Court, Mansur Ibrahim, was issued a formal warning upon evidence that confirmed he applied derogatory language against a litigant.
Similarly, an Upper Sharia Court Judge, Nasiru Ahmad, was also served a query and formally cautioned for ordering the detention of a judgment debtor in a manner that suggested personal interest and compromised judicial impartiality.
The commission, in a statement by the spokesman of the state judiciary, Baba Ibrahim, yesterday, reminded all judicial officers to maintain restraint and always respect the dignity of court users.
SANUSI, according to a letter signed by the Matawallen Kano, Aliyu Ahmad, approved the promotion of Munir Sanusi from Wamban Kano to the position on April 9.
However, Ado-Bayero approved the appointment of his elder brother, Sanusi Ado-Bayero, to the same position 12 days later. The appointee is the eldest son of the late Emir Ado Bayero and former Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA).
His appointment was conveyed in a letter dated April 21 and signed by his Senior Administrative Officer, Awaisu Sanusi, who said the appointment was approved at a meeting presided over by Ado-Bayero.
Sanusi was re-appointed Emir of Kano by Governor Abba Yusuf, after former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje deposed and banished him. Ganduje, as governor, also divided the emirate into six, with Ado-Bayero as the Emir of Kano.
