I was coerced to sanction ex-gov, says Doguwa
The Central Working Committee (CWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano has denounced the position of its Chairman, Alhaji Umar Haruna Doguwa, on the party’s resolution to sanction Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso over the alleged unruly conduct of his supporters during a condolence visit to Governor Umar Ganduje over the death of his mother last week.

Doguwa, last Thursday stated the party’s resolution to sanction Kwankwaso, accusing him of disregarding Ganduje’s administration.

But Doguwa at the weekend told journalists that he was compelled to issue the initial sanction against Kwankwaso under duress.
Although Doguwa did not reveal those mounting pressure on him and the party, he insisted that the party’s allegation against Kwankwaso was influenced to discredit him.

Not pleased with Doguwa’s sudden retraction of the party’s earlier stand, the Central Working Committee in the state insisted on the initial position of the party.

Kwankwaso’s condolence visit to the governor last week was the first to Kano since he left power. The visit was hijacked by hundreds of APC supporters who occupied major roads from the airport down to Ganduje’s village.

Kwankwaso’s supporters used the unscheduled visit to restate their support for the ex-governor. Addressing reporters at the weekend, state secretary of the party, Alhaji Abbas Sani Abbas, said: “Members of APC working committee in Kano State do hereby dissociate ourselves from counter statement made by the party’s state chairman, Umar Haruna Doguwa this evening denouncing the position of the party over the unfortunate incident that happened during the visit of Senator Kwankwaso purportedly on condolence mission to Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.”

to Abbas Sani: “We want to state categorically that the chairman made the statement on his own selfish interest and that of his mentor. We, therefore, re-affirm the earlier position of the state chapter of the party and we disassociate ourselves with what the former governor and Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso did in recruiting hoodlums, disrupting the existing peace, harmony of the party and propagating and parading his presidential ambition.”

“We, therefore, urge all party members to disregard the unauthorised second press statement made by the misguided party chairman and should await further action by the party executive.”
