Kano appoints Olubadan, Jega chancellor, pro-chancellor of education varsity
Kano State Executive Council has approved appointment of Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Moshood Olalekan Aliiwo, and former Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, as Chancellor and Pro-Chancellor/Chairman, Governing Council of Sa’adatu Rimi University of Education (SRCOE), Kumbotso, respectively.
This followed receipt of operational licence from the National Universities Commission (NUC), which recognised the institution as the 61st state university and 222nd ivory towers in the country.
A statement signed by Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Malam Muhammad Garba, confirmed that the appointments were sanctioned after the state exco meeting, which held at the Council Chambers, Government House, yesterday, in Kano.
Other members of the council are: Dr. Muhammad Adamu Kwankwaso; Hajiya Zulaiha U M Ahmed; Dr. Ibrahim Yakubu Wunti; Dr. Halima Muhammad and Alhaji Sabi’u Bako.
The commissioner said the appointments were in accordance with Part III, Section 22 of the tertiary institution’s enabling law, which states, “there shall be a council, which shall be the governing body of the university.”
