KANO State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has offered the sum of N25 million to families of soldiers and a vigilante that died in active service in the state. The four gallant soldiers and a civilian vigilante paid the supreme price while the troops of JTF were repelling bandits’ incursion in Shanono Local Council of the state. The troops neutralised more than a dozen of the criminals, but not without casualties.
Yusuf had earlier visited the communities in Shanono and Tsanyawa, including meeting with the troops at the frontline to boost their morale after the deadly confrontation with the criminals.
While presenting a cheque of ₦5 million each to the spouses and families of the four military personnel and a vigilante who paid the ultimate price, Yusuf said the cash was meant to support them.
Yusuf, who was represented by the Director General, Special Services at Government House, Major General Sani Mohammed (rtd), regretted the painful loss while condoling the families to take solace in the fact that their loved ones died in service to humanity.
During a brief ceremony at the Headquarters of 3 Brigade Nigerian Army, Bukavu Barracks, Kano, the governor said the government may not be able to compensate the families enough, adding that the presentation was in honour of the deceased’s bravery in defence of the nation.
Yusuf stated that the Kano State government would never forget the sacrifices made by the fallen heroes, eulogising them as superheroes.
Speaking on behalf of families of the deceased gallant soldiers, Lance Corporal Yusuf Jibril expressed gratitude to Yusuf and all the stakeholders involved in the compensation arrangement, pledging that the support would be utilised judiciously for the welfare of the bereaved families.
