Kano Launches First Mobile Licence Office To Upscale Revenue Drive
* Gov. Yusuf approves N7.7 billion for multiple infrastructural projects.
In a bid to upscale it’s revenue drive, Kano State Board of Internal Revenue Service (KIRS) has unveiled first of its kind Mobile License Service Centre in the state. The initiative designed to operate a Motor Licence Office (MLO) aims at boosting the state revenue collection and ease the processes for vehicle owners.
Besides blocking all revenue leakages with establishment of Treasury Single Account (TSA), the state government has restarted commitment to explore more avenue to improve it’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) from N6 billion to N10 billion naira monthly.
Speaking at the launching ceremony during the KIRS day at the ongoing 45th Kano International Trade Fair, KIRS Executive Chairman Dr Zaid Abubakar said Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s current revenue drive is committed to boosting internal income.
Dr. Abubakar said the introduction of MLO and other initiatives are part of revenue generation strategies being introduced to enhance alternative sources of revenue derivation.
“This facility is first of its kind in Nigeria, that is Kano State is the first to launch such a move which is IT driven to register vehicles anywhere and at any time. This attempt will ease the process as well as reduce unforeseen obstacles usually encountered,” he said.
On his part, KIRS Executive Director, Compliance and Enforcement Group, Malam Muhammad Abba Aliyu, said the stand taken by the state revenue service was a bold step towards revenue generation.
He revealed that for now, the service has launched two mobile centres and more will soon follow, urging other states to copy from Kano State.
During the event, notable companies and individuals were awarded for prompt revenue payment as well as effective compliance.
Meanwhile, Kano State Government under the leadership of Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf has approved N7,708,699,175.33 for execution of various infrastructural projects in the state.
The approval and other consideration were part of resolutions reached at the 21st state Executive Council Meeting presided over by the Governor.
Briefing journalists on the outcome of the council, Commissioner for Information, Baba Halilu Dantiye revealed that N1,886,887,547.59 is earmarked for construction of Tudun Yola off Gwarzo Road to Dansudu Bypass in Ungogo Local Government Area.
A statement by the Governor’s spokesman Malam Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa revealed that the council’s approval to spend N1,839,889,304.88 for the review rates for expansion of Zaria Road stretches from Silver Jubilee to Dantata and Sawoe axis was also considered.
