Kano redeploys 5,000 civil servants to classrooms
Kano State Executive Council has directed the head of civil service to redeploy 5,000 civil servants with requisite qualification in education to classrooms.
According to the council, the new policy direction was designed to strengthen education and curb acute shortage of qualified teachers in the state.
It also directed all civil servants in the Ministries, Department and Agencies (MDAs) with teaching qualification and with more than five years to retirement to be posted to schools.
The Commissioner for Information, Muhammad Garba, who disclosed the plan during a press conference, at the weekend, noted that those with vital teaching credentials would be dispatched to fill existing posts in schools, including tertiary institutions in the state.
Garba said the decision was considered for implementation after the council adopted the report of the technical committee headed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), which recommended certain category of the civil servants, especially those with National Certificate in Education (NCE), bachelors Degree and/or diploma in Education.
