A Nigerian musician, Nazir Ahmad, allegedly arrested on the order of the Kano State governor Abdullahi Ganduje has
has been released on bail by a court in Kano.

The court imposed a sum of N500,000 while he must also provide guarantors including the village head of his home town and two civil servants.

The Kano state police charged the prominent singer for allegedly illegally producing two uncensored musical albums and operating an illegal studio.

The albums released about three years ago were said to have violated some provisions of the state censorship board laws.

In the said albums titled Gidan Sarauta and Sai Hakuri the singer was said to have openly criticized the state governor Abdullahi Ganduje, reports Daily Trust.

BBC Hausa reported that although he was granted bail since Thursday he might be spending the weekend in prison custody should he fail to meet the bail conditions.

The state lawyer Sadiq Sabo Kurawa told the BBC Hause that a court official would have to determine the validity of the court’s request if it has been met.

“But if this is not the case, Naziru Emperor of Waka could spend the weekend in jail until he has satisfied all the terms laid out for his release,” he told BBC Hausa.

Naziru was turbaned as Sarkin Wakan Sarkin Kano (Chief Singer of the Emir of Kano) on December 2018 by the Kano State Emirate Council.
