Troops under Operation UDO KA have arrested a suspected cultist and armed gang member allegedly linked to a series of violent crimes in Obanliku Local Government Area of Cross River State.
The arrest was disclosed on Thursday by security analyst Zagazola Makama via his official X handle.
According to security sources cited by Zagazola, the suspect was apprehended at about 12:10 p.m. on May 20 by troops of the 130 Battalion (Rear) deployed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Amana.
The operation reportedly followed credible intelligence on the suspect’s activities in Baga 2 community, located in the Utanga area of Obanliku LGA.
Sources said the suspect had allegedly been terrorising residents of the community and was linked to the shooting of his mother as well as an attempted attack on his brother.
Preliminary investigations further revealed that the suspect is believed to be a member of a cult group and part of a notorious armed gang operating within the area.
Items recovered from the suspect included one locally made Dane gun, two mobile phones, and a bag containing personal belongings.
Security sources confirmed that the suspect remains in custody and is currently undergoing further investigation and profiling.
They added that troops under Operation UDO KA have continued intensified operations aimed at dismantling cult-related violence, armed criminal networks, and other security threats across border communities in Cross River State.
