Kano University of Science and Technology( KUST), Wudil has unveiled its locally constructed infrared temperature monitor and automated sanitizer to curtail the spread of COVID-19 pandemic.

The temperature monitor is powered by solar energy and wired with magnetic radius of 40 metres and 20 metres linear metres between transmission and receiver.

Unveiling the new technology at a press briefing on Monday, Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Shehu Alhaji Musa said the innovation was part of the contribution by the university to complement government efforts in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic.

Professor Musa said that the solar powered censored hand sanitizer device as well as the infrared thermometer cost N250,000 each unit of the forty pieces produced, amounting to N100 million were designed and developed by faculties of Engineering and Sciences.

Besides, the VC disclosed that the university is about to complete the fabrication of its mechanical ventilators as well as prototype fumigator machine to support the government. Already, he said three institutes of the university with 940 total bed space were recently donated as isolation.

Professor Musa ,explained that, “the rationale behind the production of the equipment and facilities was to bring succour and relief to the ongoing effort of government and well spirited individual towards overcoming the challenges of COVID-19”.

He said the university has produced 20 pieces of solar censored Hand sanitizer device machines, 20 pieces of solar Powered infrared thermometers, 200 Hand sanitizers WHO standard, which would be donated to the state government.

He called on wealthy individuals and organizations to invest in the invention in a bid to produce mass unit of the devices for commercial purposes.
