The Emir of Katsina, Alhaji Abdulmumini Usman, will confer a traditional title on National Assembly (NASS) member, Hon. Abdullahi Ahmad, in recognition of his contributions to the socio-economic development of the state.
The traditional title, ‘Dujuman Katsina’, is a revered and famed chieftaincy title from the old Borno empire. The turbaning ceremony is scheduled to be held on September 21 at the Emir’s palace.
Hon. Ahmad, who is the House of Representatives Committee Chairman on Interior, represents the Musawa/Matazu Federal Constituency in the Green Chamber of the NASS.
A statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Sardauna Francis, said the title is a first-of-its-kind and acknowledges the lawmaker’s “milestone contributions to the socio-economic and infrastructural development of the constituency and the state at large.”
Francis added that state governors, ministers, legislators, diplomats, captains of industry, and family members are expected to be among the dignitaries and guests at the event, which is set to begin at 10:00 a.m. in the ancient city of Katsina.
“Colours of pomp and pageantry will be further highlighted by the Durbar of horse riders in majestic attire during the conferment of the prominent traditional title on the astute politician,” Francis stated.
Hon. Ahmad, an accomplished political and economic scientist, was born in 1975 in Musawa Local Government Area.
He attended Yero Primary School in Musawa (1980-1987) and Government Secondary School Musawa (1987-1989). He later transferred to Government Science and Technical College, Funtua, where he obtained his Senior School Leaving Certificate in 1992.
From 1992 to 1993, Ahmad trained in the defunct National Guard at the Nigerian Army Depot before being posted to Sani Abacha Barracks in Abuja. After the National Guard was converted into the Nigerian Army in 1993, he resigned and returned to school, eventually graduating with a B.Sc. in Political/Economic Science from Bayero University Kano in 2003.
Ahmad ventured into various businesses in Katsina and Kaduna States and later became the General Manager of D Radda Ventures Nigeria Limited, a successful oil and gas company.
In 2015, he became the Personal Assistant to Dr. Dikko Umaru Radda, the then chief of staff to the former governor of Katsina State. When Dr. Radda was appointed Director-General of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development of Nigeria (SMEDAN) in 2016, Ahmad continued as his personal assistant.
Ahmad’s philanthropic achievements led to his election in 2023 to represent the Musawa/Matazu Federal Constituency in the Green Chamber on the platform of the All Progressives Congress.
The conferment of the ‘Dujuman Katsina’ title by the Emir of Katsina is a fitting recognition of Ahmad’s contributions to the state.
