Rector of Federal Polytechnic Kaura Namoda, Dr. Aminu Yusuf, has disclosed that the institution has secured accreditation for 38 new programmes.
He noted that prior to his assumption of office in February 2025, only three courses were accredited in the institution.
Dr. Yusuf made this known while addressing journalists after the matriculation ceremony for the 2025/2026 academic session, during which 1,450 students were admitted.
He said the newly accredited programmes have positioned the institution to compete favourably with its peers, particularly in terms of manpower and facilities required to equip students with modern technological and practical skills.
According to him, the development provides students with broader opportunities to pursue various academic paths, including both National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes.
The rector also highlighted key achievements recorded within one year of his leadership. These include the completion of a 2.5-kilometre perimeter fence, the remodelling of the institution’s ICT infrastructure, and the renovation and construction of student hostels with support from the administration of Dauda Lawal.
He added that the institution has also recruited 30 new staff members to strengthen its workforce.
Dr. Yusuf urged students and staff to shun acts of indiscipline such as cultism, robbery, and other forms of misconduct, warning that offenders would face strict sanctions. He encouraged students to remain focused on their academic pursuits.
He also advised female students to avoid indecent dressing, stressing that the institution maintains high standards of discipline and decorum.
On security, the rector assured that the safety of students and staff remains a top priority, noting that the institution is working closely with relevant security agencies to ensure a safe and conducive learning environment.
He stated that the institution has not recorded any major security incidents and assured parents and guardians that adequate measures have been put in place to safeguard lives and property.
Dr. Yusuf, however, appealed to the Federal Government to increase funding for the institution, noting that improved funding would enhance its capacity to deliver on its mandate.
