‘Keke Marwa’ rider in court for robbing his passenger

The Police in Jos on Monday arraigned a 25-year old driver, Justice Odigbo, at a Jos Chief Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing from his customer.

Odigbo of Jenta Adamu Street, Jos, was charged with criminal conspiracy and theft.

The Police Prosecutor, Sgt. Shuaibu Muhammad, told the court that one Bidemi Josham of Village Hostel of University of Jos reported the matter to the Nasarawa Gwom Police Station on March 3.

Muhammad said that the complainant boarded a tricycle of the accused from Old Bukuru Park to Village Hostel, but Odigbo and two others, who were in the tricycle, diverted to another destination and dispossessed him of his belongings.

He said the items stolen were a bag containing a camera, printer, a Gionee hand set, two pairs of jeans, a pair of slippers and a techno tablet, all valued at N156, 000 and a cash sum of N52, 000.

The prosecutor said that the complainant took the number of the tricycle while they fled and which led to the arrest of the accused few days later.

He said that the offence contravened provisions of sections 97 and 287 of the Penal Code.

The accused however, pleaded not guilty to the crime.

The Magistrate, Mr Ashaibu Wase, granted the accused bail in the sum of N80, 000 and two sureties in like sum.

Wase said that one of the sureties must have a landed property within the Jos metropolis and both must reside within the jurisdiction of the court.

He adjourned the matter till April 15 for hearing.
