Community leaders in Kaduna State have dismissed reports that 31 persons abducted during an Easter church service in Ariko, Kachia Local Government Area, were rescued by security forces, insisting that the victims remain in captivity.

In a statement on Monday, the Kuturmi Development Association (KUDA) described the reports as “false, misleading, and not reflective of the current situation on the ground.”

The statement, signed by KUDA President, Dr. Joseph David Ariko, and Publicity Secretary, Hon. Manasseh Samuel, debunked earlier claims that the abductees had been rescued by soldiers, maintaining that all the victims are still being held by their captors.

According to the community leaders, families of the abducted persons are still in contact with the kidnappers, who reportedly confirmed that the victims have been taken to their camp.

“This clearly invalidates any claim of a successful rescue operation,” the statement said.

KUDA expressed concern over the spread of unverified information, warning that such reports could create confusion, raise false hope among affected families, and undermine public trust in official communication.

While acknowledging ongoing efforts by security agencies, the association urged authorities, including the Nigerian Army, to ensure that only verified information is released to the public, especially on sensitive matters involving human lives.

“The safe return of the abducted persons remains our utmost priority,” the group added, calling for intensified and coordinated efforts to secure their unconditional release.

The association also expressed solidarity with the families of the victims and pledged to continue providing updates as credible information becomes available.

The incident highlights continuing insecurity challenges in parts of Kaduna State, where abductions by armed groups have persisted despite military operations.
