Killings in Rivers cannot continue, says APC

apcNational Working Committee(NWC) of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) has implored Nigerians to prevail on the Government of Rivers state to stem the tide of politically motivated killings in the state even as the state governor, Nyesom Wike has warned the state would not be intimidated by the APC’s boast to flood the state with solders during this Saturday’s rerun state and national legislative polls.

APC national vice chairman, Segun Oni, who led a delegation of the national working committee of the party to Rivers state to assess the recent killings of some party members in Omoku and Ogoni, said yesterday in Port Harcourt that the killings in Rivers state cannot be allowed to continue.

He described as worrisome the claim by Governor Wike, that the killings were gang related and not political. He observed that before the emergence of Wike as governor nine months ago, the state did not witness the kind of brutish killings which now characterise it.
“Cult people clashing in your state. Were these cult people your own import? People were not dying like this a few months ago when he was not here. So, if he brought he cult, the rest of Nigerians to remove them” said Oni.

Wike, has meanwhile said the APC’S reliance on soldiers to rig Saturday ‘s election would be defeated as the people will defend their hard-earned freedom.

He told Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, supporters in Ogoni, yesterday that the minister of transport and former governor of the state, Chibuike Amaechi, had tagged them militants to create an excuse for the Army to lay siege in the area. He urged the people reward the APC with electoral defeat on March 19.

“Why are the leaders of the APC running away from election after their victory at the tribunal? They have refused to campaign. All they do is to boast that that they will flood the state with soldiers who will rig the elections. We have a mass movement of Rivers people who represent an army of voters. They will subdue the rigging army imported by Amaechi “ he said.
The governor said all those celebrating the killing of Ogoni people will face the wrath of the people during the rerun elections .

Wike assured the people of Rivers South-East senatorial district that he will construct critical roads, hospitals and schools in the area beginning next month.

He noted that the Sakpenwa-Bori road and Opobo link road will be awarded in April.
He implored the people to vote PDP candidates so as to entrench development in the state without distraction.
Presenting party flags to candidates for the rerun elections, Deputy National Chairman of the PDP, Prince Uche Secondus said PDP has been winning all rerun elections because Nigerians are tired of suffering due to the failure of the APC to keep her promises.

He advised President Muhammadu Buhari to watch Minister of Transportation, Amaechi closely as he has already started claiming the position of Commander in Chief of the Armed forces.
Former Minister of Trade and Investment, Chief Kenneth Kobani said that Ogoni people will vote PDP candidates on Saturday , March 19. He warned that no soldier would be allowed to rig elections in the area no matter the intimidation.
