Kingmakers deny choosing anyone as Alade-Idanre monarch

• Urge community to disregard impostor
• Blame litigation for delay in installing new king

The Alade-Idanre community in Idanre Local Council of Ondo State has described as untrue the rumours making the rounds that a monarch has been selected to succeed the late Oba Olusegun Akinbola, who passed away three years ago.

The kingmakers in the community, therefore, labelled anyone parading himself as the town’s monarch as an impostor, saying that such action contradicts the town’s traditions and customs.

The kingmakers, led by the Regent and Lisa of Alade-Idanre, Oladipo Akinsowon, said that the selection process to choose the new Aladeokun of Alade to replace the late monarch had just begun.

Akinsowon, who spoke with newsmen shortly after meeting with traditional kingmakers, quarter chiefs and youth leaders of the community in his palace, disowned a selection process that violates the tradition and custom of the community.

The Lisa said they would soon begin the selection process of having a new king in line with the tradition of the town as the court has invalidated the earlier method of choosing an Oba. He said that the kingmakers were not responsible for the delay in the selection process, blaming it on litigation that had been settled by the court.
