Kogi State Commissioner for Water Resources Salami Ozigi has urged residents to protect the water facilities in their neighbourhood to avoid wastage.

Ozigi made the call yesterday at a press briefing to mark the day in his office in Lokoja.

According to him, “People should not see government’s investment in water as something that belongs to the state alone, because it is a careless attitude that must stop.”

He said the theme of the year’s celebration: “Why Waste Water” was apt, especially as the people had become accustomed to the wastage of water.

He said it was unpatriotic for people to neglect broken down water pipes in their neighborhoods without reporting to the water ministry.

“Some people do not even understand that the water facilities provided by government belongs to everybody. The residents should not hesitate to offer remedial measures when they come across such leaking pipes.”
