Kogi House of Assembly members reunite

The members of the Kogi State House of Assembly have reunited after a truce brokered by a self appointed 11- man reconciliation committee brought the two factions together for reconciliation.‎ The committee headed by John Oladele Nihi called the warring factions to a round table and brokered peace between them in a meeting that lasted for two hours on Thursday, which continued on Friday.

The House of Assembly which had been in the news for the wrong reasons had been incapacitated to carry out its duties for the past five months with the warring factions at each other’s jugular.

The Assembly was split into two factions with the G15 side led by embattled Speaker Momoh Jimoh Lawal while Imam Umar led the G5 faction. The imbroglio became so heated that the National Assembly intervened in the crisis as the House of Reps made a resolution ordering the taking over of the legislative functions of the house and sealing of the Assembly complex. Nihi, while speaking to news men, said the crisis had degenerated to the level that the image of the state was being battered, and since no elder deemed it fit to reconcile the warring factions, the youths stepped in to do the needful.

Speaking on the successes achieved in the reconciliation, Honorable Kolawole Mathews who spoke for his group said they have come together to find lasting solution to the crisis.
