There are reports of the fatal shooting of a youth identified as Ojochenemi Akayaba in Kogi State, after allegedly snatching a ballot box.

What started as a peaceful election in Dekina Council was scuttled, yesterday, as suspected political thugs went round to disrupt voting at different polling units within the council.

They attacked locations at Dekina town, Anyigba and Abocho communities, destroying Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) materials.

Ballot papers and boxes were also snatched or destroyed at some units at Udaba-Dekina and Tudunwada.

It was gathered that Akayaba was “shot dead” after snatching a ballot box at Agwudoko area in Anyigba.

It is believed he was gunned down by security operatives.

A photo on social media shows the graduate lying lifeless.

Akayaba is an alumnus of Prince Abubakar Audu University.

He studied Political Science and recently completed his National Youth Service Corps, NYSC.
Meanwhile, INEC has cancelled the voting process in seven polling units in the Kogi East Senatorial District of the state following the disruption of voting by thugs in the affected areas.

According to INEC, two polling units were cancelled in Anyigba while five others were annulled in the Omala community of the state.

The electoral umpire stated that the attack by thugs who shot into the air and disrupted the polling units contravened the Electoral Act as such election from the concerned areas stand cancelled.

The attack, INEC said, led to the sudden end of the voting in the said areas.
According to INEC, one of the polling units cancelled was Unit 01, Abejukolo Ward in Omala Council of the state.
