Connected Development (CODE) has announced the appointment of seasoned journalist and communications strategist, Kunle Babs, as its Chief Consultant for Global Communications and Advocacy.
Babs brings nearly 15 years of international experience in multimedia production, video journalism, and strategic communications. He has worked with several leading global media outlets, including Agence France-Presse (AFP), China Global Television Network (CGTN), France 24, Channel News Asia (CNA), Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), DD India, and Deutsche Welle (DW).
Before his formal engagement with CODE, Babs collaborated with the organisation as a resource person, notably training staff on media engagement and effective storytelling during its annual retreat. He also produced several documentaries spotlighting CODE’s “Follow The Money” healthcare campaign, including the award-winning DW documentary, Fighting Eco-Corruption in Nigeria.
In 2024, Babs was part of CODE’s international observation team during the United States Presidential election, a role that further underscored his global advocacy credentials.
In his new capacity, Babs will oversee CODE’s global communications strategies, steer media relations, drive advocacy campaigns, and enhance the organisation’s brand visibility across Africa and internationally.
Speaking on the appointment, Hamzat Lawal, Chief Executive of CODE, expressed confidence in Babs’ ability to advance the organisation’s mission. “We are thrilled to welcome Kunle to the team. His expertise in global communications and storytelling will play a vital role in scaling our impact,” he said.
Lawal, who has worked closely with Babs for nearly a decade, described him as a passionate and committed professional whose skills extend far beyond technical expertise. “I trust his craft completely and believe he will be instrumental in elevating CODE’s advocacy efforts to new heights. Beyond his technical skills, Kunle understands the heart of our mission – giving voice to the marginalised. That makes all the difference.”
Babs holds a BA in English and a postgraduate diploma in filmmaking and television production. He is currently pursuing an MBA in Media Leadership at the University of Cumbria, United Kingdom.
In his response to the appointment, Babs said: “I am honoured to join CODE and excited to contribute to its mission of empowering marginalised communities through advocacy and innovation. I look forward to working alongside the talented team at CODE to strengthen the organisation’s impact and expand its influence globally.”
