Chairman, Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX), Dr. Umaru Kwairanga, has been announced as one of the lead speakers at the upcoming ‘For The Love of The Country Conference’, scheduled to take place on June 5, 2025, in Kano.
With over 25 years of experience across Nigeria’s banking, pension, investment, manufacturing, and commercial sectors, Kwairanga brings a wealth of insight and leadership to the national dialogue.
Themed, ‘Reimagining Nigeria’s Economy for a Prosperous Future: Where We Were, Where We Are, and Where We Should Be in the Next Decade’, this year’s conference aims to spotlight Nigeria’s economic history, assess its current realities, and propose a visionary roadmap for the future.
Now in its fifth edition, ‘For The Love of The Country’ has previously held successful gatherings in Abuja and Lagos.
The choice of Kano as this year’s host city underscores its historic significance as a hub of trade, commerce, and industry.
Speaking on the strategic location, event convener, Atinuke Odjenima, emphasised Kano’s resilience and economic potential.
“Nigeria’s economic development must be inclusive, leveraging the strength of every region. Hosting the conference in Kano gives us an opportunity to spotlight the city’s entrepreneurial spirit and drive transformation across the nation,” she said.
Odjenima also reiterated the need to involve youths and women in shaping Nigeria’s economic future.
“By empowering our youths and women in leadership, business, and governance, we pave the way for a stronger, more inclusive economy,” she noted.
The conference is expected to attract a high-profile lineup of speakers that include the Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf; Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido; economist and former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Prof. Kingsley Moghalu; political economist and leadership expert, Prof. Pat Utomi.
Also to speak are Nigeria’s Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole; Kano State Commissioner for Industry, Commerce and Trade, Shehu Wada, among others.
Key discussions at the conference will focus on industrialisation, agriculture, entrepreneurship, technology, security, and youth empowerment – sectors identified as critical to Nigeria’s economic resurgence.
It will also serve as a platform for policy recommendations, investment opportunities, and strategic partnerships designed to enhance Nigeria’s global competitiveness.
In addition to plenary sessions and panel discussions, the event will offer robust networking opportunities for government leaders, business executives, traditional rulers, and aspiring entrepreneurs, fostering dialogue and collaboration across sectors.
