Kwara bans trucks, taxis, motorcycles from Govt House road
Kwara State Government has banned articulated vehicles, commercial tricycles, motorcycles, and taxi cabs from plying Government House road in GRA Ilorin, the state capital.
The new directive was contained in a statement issued last Friday by the state’s Works and Transport Ministry.
The ministry directed the State Traffic Management Agency (KWARTMA) to commence enforcement of the ban.
Commissioner for Transportation Abdulquawiy Olododo hinted that violators of the restriction orders would pay a N50,000 fine.
Ahmadu Bello Way, one of the newly rehabilitated roads has recently become an alternate road for commercial vehicles to Tanke, Fate, and River Basin areas in Ilorin Metropolis.
The Ministry stated that it had started erecting restriction signages at some designated spots from the Challenge area through Ahmadu Bello Way.
The acting Chief Executive Officer, KWARTMA, Engr. Bamidele Michael said the move will complement the existing “No Parking” signs on our roads and also enhance safety and security.
He added that “traders should desist from carrying out trading activities on the Walkways which were made for pedestrians particularly in some area including Ojaoba, Gambari, Ita-Amodu, Agaka, Adifa, Gambari, Balogun Fulani, Emir’s Road, Post Office to Challenge and Muritala Mohammed Way among many others while taking into cognizance the dangers associated with road encroachment.”
The commissioner warned that driving against traffic (one-way) was on the rise and any driver found culpable would be sanctioned
