Ladipo market leaders go tough on sanitation

To ensure a cleaner market, leaders at the Ladipo auto spare parts market, Mushin, Lagos State, at the weekend, embarked on a sanitation exercise to rid the market of filths and pollution in its quarterly cleanup.

The leaders charged traders of the largest market for fairly used vehicle parts in West Africa to ensure a cleaner environment during its trading activities.

The exercise and sensitisation walk round the market were led by the President-General of Ladipo Central Executive Auto Dealers Association (LASEC), Jude Nwankwo, who called for regular cleaning of the market in tandem with the state government’s policy.

“We have seen that this extra effort goes a long way in reducing the filth that used to be the identity of the market and we are very happy. I think we are achieving our aim of not being an embarrassment to the government as well as our customers. It will interest you to know that we have a 45-man unit that organises and sensitises our traders from time to time on the importance of keeping the market clean.

“While we always keep to the 10.00 am stipulated time of Thursday cleaning exercise, every shop remains locked during our cleaning which we do quarterly,” he said.

While speaking on insecurity and trading of stolen vehicles, he said his administration had put mechanisms in place to check irregularities in market activities, adding that the market was ready to assist officers of the Lagos State task force with vehicles in carrying out activities.
