The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has ordered all police officers to wear black bands throughout the seven-day mourning period to pay tribute to the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja.

The force’s spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.

Adejobi said the directive is to pay tribute and honour the late General, who has showed gallantry, dedication, and passion for fighting violent crimes and insurgency in Nigeria.

He added that Lagbaja was a great leader who deserves to be honoured by all means.

This order was issued after President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday evening “directed that national flags be flown at half-mast throughout the country for seven days to honour the departed Army chief.”

The late Chief of Army Staff passed away on Tuesday night after a prolonged illness at the age of 56.
