Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to increasing food security and infrastructure development from the current 18 per cent to over 50 per cent.

The state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who stated this during a working visit to the Lagos Central Food Security Systems and Logistics Park in Epe, said that the first phase of the project is slated for completion by the second quarter of 2025, emphasising his administration’s commitment to the project given its critical role in safeguarding the state’s food supply and security.

The governor said: “This hub represents a pivotal step towards achieving food sufficiency and affordability for Lagos residents. By reducing wastage and optimising supply chains, we aim to stabilise food prices and mitigate the impact of economic disruptions.”

He, however, announced plans to replicate middle-level market hubs across Ajah, Agege, Oregun, and Ikorodu, similar to the pioneering initiative in Idi-Oro, Mushin that was launched last year.

Meanwhile, the wife of the governor, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, yesterday, paid a special visit to Wesley School for the Hearing Impaired in Surulere where she engaged the pupils and emphasised the importance of safeguarding children against all forms of abuse.

Sanwo-Olu, during her interaction with the pupils, underscored the inclusive governance philosophy of the state government, which prioritises the protection of vulnerable children, including those with disabilities.

She commended members of staff and management of Wesley School for their dedication to providing quality education for children with hearing impairments and encouraged them to remain vigilant in identifying and addressing any signs of abuse among the pupils.

The governor’s wife stressed the importance of being observant of children’s sexual behaviours and reactions, highlighting these as potential indicators of abuse or distress.

In his remarks, the Chairman of Surulere Local Council, Bamidele Sulaiman, reaffirmed his dedication to strengthening policies and initiatives that protect children, women, and vulnerable groups across the council and beyond.

He also expressed the council’s commitment to amplifying awareness of gender-based violence and advocating for a society free of abuse and discrimination.
