Lagos HoS assures workers of palliatives, reveals salary increment plans

Head of Service of Lagos State, Hakeem Muri-Okunola, has assured labour leaders and workers in the state that the government is working assiduously on measures to mitigate the effect of hardship caused by the removal of fuel subsidy.

He said the state government was not oblivious to the hardship that the recent economic realities are posing to workers and the state, adding that workers would reap the dividends of current sacrifices within the shortest time possible.

Muri-Okunola gave the assurance during the meeting of the Lagos State Public Service Joint Negotiating Council held at Alausa, Ikeja.
He, therefore, called for patience and understanding and continued cooperation with labour unions.

The HoS expressed optimism that the outcome of the meeting would go a long way in strengthening the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the labour unions in the state,

According to him, the government would strive to maintain the resolve to build a Lagos State that is inclusive, prosperous and exemplary, reminding the labour leaders that their role is pivotal in this endeavour and they must continue to deploy dialogue as an effective weapon to actualise their demands.

Similarly, Lagos State government and labour union leaders in the state met to deliberate on important issues that relate to career development and welfare of workers in the public service.

The meeting, which was presided over by Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Establishments and Training, Olawale Musa, who also doubled as Chairman of the Lagos State Public Service Joint Negotiating Council, was held at Ikeja.

In his welcome address, Musa reiterated government’s commitment to workers’ welfare, stating that the state government is determined to formulate policies towards improving the quality of life and standard of living of its workers.

The Head of Service said the governor had just given the go-ahead to commence the process of salary increment for workers in the state and also approved the distribution of official vehicles to directors in the state civil service.
