A Lagos State-based lawyer and human rights activist, Mr. Dele Farotimi, has raised the alarm that some people allegedly working for the state are threatening his life over his disposition to the October 2020 #EndSARS protests and his firm objection to the recent directives by the Lagos State Judicial Panel of Restitution and Inquiry that the Lekki Toll Gate plaza should be reopened while investigation is still ongoing.

Farotimi, who spoke at a press conference in Lagos, yesterday, alleged that some powerful personalities in Lagos State were planning to assassinate him due to his radical comments on the #Lekkishootings and the proposed reopening of the Lekki tollgate.

He said he had petitioned both the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Lagos State Police Command over the assassination plan against him.

According to him, “On Monday last week, I have been hearing hint that a lot of powerful people are pissed off with me particularly because of what I have been saying about the #EndSARS protests, the killings at the Lekki Tollgate and the planned reopening of the plaza. I was aware that I had offended a lot of powerful people but by Tuesday last week, I got a phone call giving a specific and clear warning.

“Somebody, who I will not disclose now but his identity has been included in the petition submitted to the authorities, was privy to certain discussions at certain levels. He warned me that the threat was not an empty one. The threat was specific and names were mentioned. I know one of the persons who were mentioned at the personal level.

“If anything should happen to me, look no further than the persons I had mentioned in my petition to the DSS and Nigeria Police”.

Meanwhile, Ogunlana has said that those who threatened Farotimi were known persons, stressing: “RAMNBA is not known for making frivolous allegations.”
