The Bariga Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Lagos State has renamed the popular Charly Boy Bus Stop to Baddo Bus Stop in honour of Nigerian rapper Olamide Adedeji, popularly known as Baddo. The change is part of a broader initiative by the council to rename several streets and landmarks after notable Nigerian figures in entertainment, politics, and sports.
Announcing the development on the last day of his tenure, the outgoing Chairman of Bariga LCDA, Hon. Kolade Alabi David, said the exercise was aimed at recognising individuals who have positively projected the name of the community and contributed meaningfully to national development.
“As an administration, we took our time to reflect on a number of our people who have put the name of our local council out on the global map through their respective God-given talents and craft, as well as eminent personalities in our nation and our beloved state and local council who have contributed immensely to the development of our nation and our state,” Alabi said.
As part of the renaming exercise, Ilaje Road has been changed to King Sunny Ade Road, Bariga Road to Bola Ahmed Tinubu Way, and Community Road in Akoka is now Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu Road. Ajidagan Street becomes Olamide Adedeji (Baddo) Street, Ifeanyi Street is now Abolore Akande (9ice) Street, Ayodele Street in Ladi-Lak has been renamed Tony Tetuila Street, while Ilojo Crescent in Obanikoro is now known as Bukayo Saka Street.
The development follows a similar move by Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Area, which recently renamed 24 streets within its jurisdiction, signaling a trend among local councils to honour prominent Nigerians who have made enduring contributions to the nation’s cultural and political landscape.
