Lagos State Police Command, yesterday, said it has commenced investigation into circumstances leading to the death of two siblings, Abibu Bello, 17, Bolaji Bello, 14 and injuring another person at N0 2 Iyewa Street, Isolo, Lagos.
The siblings died after a woman, Elizabeth Awogbemi, drove her Sports, Utility Vehicle (SUV) to a building close to where the deceased were seated.
The deceased are children of a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Toyin Bayero.
Eyewitnesses said they were playing at 7.40 p.m., on Sunday, when the tragedy occurred.
They claimed the Lexus vehicle marked: LSD 356 GU, first crashed into a kiosk in front of the building before crashing into the building where the youngsters were playing.
The children were rushed to Isolo General Hospital, but they were confirmed dead by a doctor in charge, while the third, a neighbour’s son suffered broken legs and is still in the hospital.
The Guardian learnt that Awogbemi left a hairdressing salon a few metres from the scene when she suddenly lost control of the SUV.
Speaking with The Guardian on the matter, Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Benjamin Hundeyin said: “The woman is still at the hospital, so, we will commence proper investigation when she gets discharged.
“She is on the hospital bed, but we will carry out other aspects of the investigation that do not require her presence. The outcome of the investigation will determine what will happen.
“We need to know if she was drunk, deliberately ran into the building, or if it was a brake failure.
