Lagos rallies residents to circular economy, wealth creation

Plans summit on physical planning framework

Lagos State Government has again tasked residents to embrace circular economy practices.

It said that by embracing the practices, the environment would not only be protected but also gives opportunities for wealth creation, which will improve the living standards of the people and also ensure a better quality of life.

Special Adviser to Lagos State Governor on Climate Change and Circular Economy, Titilayo Oshodi, stated this, at the weekend, during a sensitisation programme in Badagry on waste-to-wealth initiative, tagged “Eco Circulate,” to engage and activate communities, particularly nano and micro-businesses, as key beneficiaries in the state’s drive towards a circular economy.

Oshodi, who stated that the ECO circulate is more than just a programme but a testament to the power of collaboration and the innovative spirit that drives Lagos State, said: “This initiative, envisioned by the Office of the Special Adviser on Climate Change and Circular Economy, is designed to be a transformative force in our communities. By engaging residents and incentivising climate-friendly practices, ECO circulate positions circular economy practices as a new form of social subsidy – rewarding those who take action towards sustainability with tangible benefits.

Oshodi added that the Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget has provided the strategic oversight needed to align the initiative with the broader economic goals of Lagos State.

IN another development, Lagos State government has disclosed plans to host a landmark physical planning summit next month, aimed at bringing together stakeholders from far and wide to shape the future of development in the state.

The summit is poised to explore the challenges and opportunities facing Lagos State as the state strives to become a smart mega city, and identify strategies for sustainable physical planning and development.

According to a statement by the Deputy Director, Public Affairs, Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, Mukaila Sanusi, key issues to be addressed include urbanisation and its impacts on physical planning, innovative approaches to physical planning and urban design and stakeholders’ engagement and participation in development plan.

He said that stakeholders would also explore sustainable development strategies for a resilient Lagos and effective governance and policy frameworks for physical planning.

Sanusi further said that the forum would offer a unique opportunity for stakeholders to contribute to the development of a comprehensive physical planning framework for Lagos State.
