Lagos State Government has reopened five markets – Ladipo, Oyingbo, Alamutu Ologede, and Ile Epo after they were closed down for various environmental offences.

Commissioner for environment and water resources, Tokunbo Wahab, made this known in a statement on his X handle on Monday.

Among the offences were reckless waste disposal, unhygienic premises and non-payment of waste bills, among others.

According to Wahab, the markets were re-opened following full compliance with requisite conditions.

He, however, warned that subsequent violations will attract permanent closure.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, the Commissioner accompanied Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on an inspection tour of the flooded areas of Ojo Giwa, Princess, Oroyiyin, Idumagbo and Pelewura areas in Lagos Island.

After the inspection, Sanwo-Olu issued a week quit notice to people who have done illegal construction of shops and market stalls on the drainages and unauthorized stores in different parts of the markets.

He also instructed the Ministry of the Environment to serve the requisite notices and begin demolition of illegal structures immediately.
