Lagos seeks citizens’ participation in urban planning
The Lagos state government has appealed to residents to actively participate in urban planning by reporting any violation of regulations to authorities. State’s Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr Oluyinka Olumide, made the appeal in Alausa, adding that proper planning cannot be done without the support and contribution of the people.
Olumide said the ministry is ready to receive complaints from residents, urging them to report any observed untoward developments and contribute generally to the state’s sustainable development.
He also called on the residents to report any illegal construction, unauthorised developments or other planning violations within the state.
The commissioner urged the residents to report infractions and assured them that their identities as whistleblowers would be protected, adding that the ministry would take action against any officers found to be involved in or condoning illegal activities.
According to him, through collaboration with residents, the government could create a more organised and sustainable environment in the state.
