Lagos to audit underground cables, pipes
To prevent fatal crisis in the state resulting from indiscriminate installation of power, telecommunications, gas and water cables and pipes under and over the ground, Lagos State Government said that it has concluded arrangements to audit the quality and quantum of infrastructure over and under the ground in the state.
Speaking at a stakeholders meeting, the General Manager, Lagos State Infrastructure Maintenance and Regulatory Agency, (LASIMRA), Mr. Babajide Odekunle, said that the State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode is unhappy with the haphazard installations of cables and pipes, posing dangers to lives and properties.
He said with the audit, the state government will be able to know not just the number of cables and pipes underground, but also where, which helps in planning for construction and installation of new cables and pipes.
He said that at the end of the exercise, the database would become a most sought after information system that will be a guide to the future of the state.
