Lagos Tutor-General vows to deepen education reforms

Newly appointed Tutor–General/Permanent Secretary (TGPS) of District VI in Lagos State Civil Service, Dr. Shareefah Yusuf, has promised to focus on deepening the reforms in the education sector and take the district to greater heights.

During her inauguration by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, yesterday, the Tutor-General said her appointment came as a surprise to her.

“If not God, who am I to attain this position. It is a favour from my Lord,” she added.

Yusuf commended Sanwo-Olu’s investment in education and her predecessor, Mrs. Oludara Okelola, for leaving good legacy.

She said: “I commend the state government’s transformational initiative to boost learning and teaching using technology.

“I am not here to upturn my predecssor’s legacy, but to improve it. I am here for success and achievement. I am here as a leader of united Education District VI to impact positively on our learning. I am here to impact the teachers, I am here on behalf of every member of the education family.”

The TGPS of District II, Mrs. Anike Adekanye, who represented the Commissioner for Education, described Yusuf’s appointment as a result of her hard work, diligence and resilience in service. She prayed for her success in the new position.

President, All Nigeria Confederation of Principal of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), Lagos chapter, Mr. Olusola Abayomi, congratulated and welcomed the new TGPS and prayed God to guide her through her tenure.

“We are working hard in Lagos to ensure that students receive adequate education that will make them thrive locally and internationally, and the state government provides all necessary requirements,” she said.

Okelola welcomed her successor, assuring her of support from all members of the district and prayed for her success through her tenure.

She advised her to build on the existing legacy and treat everybody right, irrespective of religious or ethnic affiliation.
