LASG recommits to data-driven governance to accelerate SDGs

Lagos State Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu

Lagos State Government, yesterday, reaffirmed its commitment to governance that is guided by evidence, coordination, and measurable impact using reliable data to ensure that development efforts truly improve the lives of residents across the state.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Dr Oreoluwa Finnih, who made the reaffirmation during the 2026 yearly media briefing to mark the third year of the second term of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration, emphasised that Lagos State is strengthening how it will track progress and deliver results by integrating data across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

She said that this data-driven approach had already started yielding visible outcomes, particularly through Lagos State’s active leadership in the Human Capital Development (HCD) 2.0 Core Working Group.

According to her, the initiative is helping the state to design and implement interventions in health, education, and social development that are not only people-centred but backed by evidence.

Finnih also highlighted the successful coordination of Lagos State’s second Voluntary Local Review (VLR), which brought together communities, stakeholders, and development partners in assessing progress on the SDGs at the local level.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Central Business Districts (CBD) office has arrested and prosecuted 859 offenders across Lagos Island and Ikeja business districts as part of intensified efforts to restore order, improve sanitation and enforce compliance within major commercial corridors of the state.

Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Central Business Districts, Mrs Bola Olumegbon-Lawal, disclosed this yesterday, during the media briefing.

She said that other milestones highlighted include the second edition of the Advocacy for Women’s Financial Inclusion, which focused on underserved communities, improved policy alignment across MDAs to drive a unified approach to the 2030 agenda, and expanded awareness initiatives like SDG clubs in primary schools and social impact cinema projects designed to inspire behavioural change among young people.

The special adviser added that the SDGs’ office engagement in global sustainability conversations remains strong, with participation in key international forums, including the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), as well as the Rabat, Khartoum, and Niamey Processes, ensuring that Lagos continues to align its development priorities with global best practices.
