The Lagos State Truck and Cargo Operators Committee ( LASTCOC) has advocated synergy with the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) to enhance traffic sanity, orderliness and safety of road users lives in the Apapa/Tin Can logistics corridors.
The committee members, let by the Chairman, Lukman Shittu Zangalo, paid a courtesy/familiarisation visit to the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr Bolaji Oreagba today, to see how they can synergise and promote the Lagos State Government THEMES agenda in the area of transportation for economic growth and development of the State.
In a statement by the Secretary of LASTCOC, Mohammed Sani Bala, the committee was formed by the Lagos State Government to serve as a channel of communication between the government and the maritime trucking community.
He said the committee will also serve as the means of implementing the government’s policy on ease of doing transportation business as well as address the menace of area boys and multiple tickets being imposed on truckers by various road transport unions, local governments and area boys.
The LASTCOC chairman appreciated the LASTMA GM for hosting the committee.
Zangalo promised that the committee would give maximum support to LASTMA to achieve its mandate of promoting free flow traffic in Lagos State without rancour and acrimony.
On his part, the LASTMA boss congratulated the members of the committee and expressed the readiness of the authority to work with the committee to promote transportation for economic growth and development of the State.
He advised the committee to sensitise drivers on the need to comply with traffic rules and regulations all the time and to stop fighting LASTMA operatives.
Oreagba also advised against the indiscriminate parking of trucks causing obstruction along the Apapa/Tincan Ports corridors for traffic sanity and orderliness purpose.
