Exactly 28 days after the death of the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Jimoh Oyewumi Ajagungbade, his first daughter, Prof. Taibat Bolanle Danmole, reportedly died, yesterday, in Ilorin, Kwara State.

Taibat, a professor of education, was married to Prof. Hakeem Danmole. Taibat was said to have been at the University of Ilorin before she transferred her services to the Lagos State University (LASU) where she served until her retirement.

She was said to have relocated to Ilorin after her husband transferred his services to Hikmah University.

Although the family was yet to issue an official statement, The Guardian learnt that burial arrangements were ongoing.

MEANWHILE, Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, was absent at the eight-day fidau prayer for the late Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji, at Mapo Hall, Ibadan, the state capital.

Makinde, who was said to have travelled out of the country shortly after Christmas, returned to Ibadan on Saturday, but could not attend the fidau prayers, even as the government allegedly failed to pay a condolence visit to the families of the three late monarchs, who died between December last and January 2022.

The monarchs were Oba Adetunji, Oba Oyewunmi and the Asigangan of Igangan, Oba Abdul-Azeez Adeoye.

Sources in government circles disclosed that the eight-day fidau prayer was part of Makinde’s itinerary, yesterday, but the governor could not attend due to undisclosed reasons.

He, was, however, represented by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Chief Bayo Lawal, who declined comments on his (Makinde’s) absence.

Former Governor Rasidi Ladoja, representative of Oyo Central Senatorial District, Teslim Folarin, All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in 2019, Bayo Adelabu, Olufemi Lanlehin and Aare Musulumi of Yoruba land, Alhaji Daud Makanjuola, among others, attended the event.

In their sermons, Prof. Jamiu Olosho and Pastor Iyiola Oladokun urged Nigerian politicians and leaders to show good character and work together to accelerate the country’s development.
