LAWMA reviews sanitation services on highways

LASTMA tasks personnel to shun corruption
Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), has mapped out plans to re-strategise its sanitation and sweeping activities on some highways across the state for thorough operational modalities.

Its Managing Director/CEO of LAWMA, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, who disclosed this at the weekend, said the decision was to facilitate a comprehensive planning and potential redistribution of existing routes to ensure the well being of personnel involved in street and road sanitation.

He listed some of the affected routes to include include Gbagada Expressway, Iyana-Oworo to Charley Boy, Charley Boy to Anthony Oke, Anthony Oke to Oshodi Oke, Oshodi Oke to Anthony Oke, Charity to Iyana Isolo, Iyana Isolo to Balex, Odo Olowo to Cele-Under Bridge, Iyana Itire to Cowbell Bus Stop and Cowbell Bus Stop to Five Star.

Others according to him are Five Star to Charity, Charity to Oshodi Oke, Arena to Shogunle Bus Stop (both sides), Costain/Apongbon Link Bridge to Alaka (both sides), Alaka to Costain (afternoon), Ilueri to Eko Bridge, Alakija to Dantata Amuwo Odofin (both sides), Abule Ado To Dantata Amuwo Odofin Lbe (both sides), Trade Fair To Abule Ado, First Gate to Mile 2 Amuwo Odofin (both sides), Abule Osun to Onireke and Ojo (both sides), among others.

The LAWMA boss said: “We prioritise the safety and welfare of our sanitation workers (sweepers), and this comprehensive plan allows us to conduct a thorough review of identified routes. Our commitment to maintaining a clean and healthy environment remains steadfast and this measure is a proactive step to enhance the efficiency of our services”.

He said the immediate plan would not disrupt the waste management system in the state, as the remuneration of workers and CEOs’ dues would remain unaffected throughout the review exercise.
MEANWHILE, newly appointed Acting General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) Mr. Bakare Oki, has urged personnel of the agency to show empathy in dealing with the public and shun corruption in whatever guise.

Oki said this during a meeting with LASTMA Comptrollers, Commander and Zebras on his vision and mission for the agency at the weekend.  He pledged the agency would go all out to ensure that commuters have seamless experience traveling across the state. He warned LASTMA personnel that the administration would not condone corruption, adding that they also need to be civil when relating with traffic offenders.

“The public expects a corrupt-free LASTMA that will not be collecting bribes; therefore, you should be respectful and courteous even when you are apprehending an offender,” he said.

He pointed out that the new administration would carry out major re-organisation around the provost/surveillance department for effective and efficient monitoring of activities of LASTMA personnel while on duty.
