The member representing Ikwo/Ezza South Federal Constituency, Ebonyi State, in the House of Representatives, Chinedu Ogah, has given the West African Examination Council (WAEC) a seven-day ultimatum to release the results of 192,089 candidates it withheld.
In a statement issued yesterday in Abakaliki, Ogah insisted that if, after the seven days, the examination body refused to release the results, he would institute legal action against it.
WAEC Head of National Office (HNO), Dr Amos Dangut, had, on Monday, announced the release of this year’s WAEC results, with 192,089 results, representing 9.75 per cent of the total number of candidates that sat for the examination, withheld in connection with various reported cases of examination malpractice.
But Ogah expressed displeasure over the seizure of the results, urging the examination body to immediately release the results or face legal action.
Ogah, who is the House Committee Chairman on Reformatory Institutions, said that withholding the results will frustrate the affected candidates and prevent them from getting admission into higher institutions, describing WAEC’s excuse for this action as flimsy.
He said: “It is very unfortunate that after candidates wrote their WAEC and Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examinations to enter the university, WAEC will withhold their results on flimsy excuses.”
