Lawmaker empowers 50 women in poultry, fishery value-chain in Lagos


Gives accounts of stewardship

The Lagos State lawmaker representing Oshodi/Isolo Federal Constituency II in the House of Representatives, Ganiyu Johnson, has facilitated the training and empowerment of 50 women on poultry and fishery in Isolo area of the state, in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Water Resources, Benin Owena River Basin Development Authority (BORBDA) and S & Z Ideal Contractor Limited in Lagos.

Johnson, while addressing the participants at the event, at the weekend, said the training and empowerment were facilitated in his bid to minimise the rate of poverty and ensure that women are self-employed through productive entrepreneurial skills.

He said that the training aimed towards people who are currently engaged in poultry rearing and those who have interest and passion for the business.

MEANWHILE, the lawmaker, while giving accounts of his stewardship during a constituency meeting, at the weekend, said that he facilitated nine bills and 10 motions.

According to him, he had completed over 60 blocks of classrooms with toilets in Isolo, Ilasamaja and Ejigbo, provided over 800 chairs and tables in Akinbaiye and Imakiyo primary schools, distributed over 6,000 books, exercise books for pupils and students within the constituency, as well as the provision of 300KVA transformer at Babs Aregbe Street, Okota, among others.

He also listed provision of computers, 20-seater ICT hub fully furnished with 15KVA standby generator with 100 litres diesel monthly at Ajumoni Junior Grammar School, Okota as well as distribution of more than 200 motorcycles to the youth in the constituency

He further said that over 2,000 constituents had been trained in the areas of leadership, animal husbandry, fishery, soap making, tailoring, saloon, make-up, and photography, among others, with working tools and start-up capital to boost their businesses.
