Lawyer asks EFCC to release money recovered from suspect
An Enugu based lawyer, Arinze Onyia has asked the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to release the N1m recovered from a suspect, Abel Ani over a failed land deal.
Onyia had four years ago, allegedly paid N3m to Ani for a piece of land in Enugu. He could not, however, continue with the development of the property, following contentions about the rightful owner.
Another person had claimed ownership of same property and warned Onyia to stay away. Efforts by Onyia to convince the person that he actually bought the property failed, prompting him (Onyia) to demand refund from Ani.
He had petitioned EFCC over the failed transaction, after several futile attempts to settle the matter.
The EFCC was said to have swung into action and last year, recovered N1m out of the N3m allegedly paid by Ani.
Ironically, since the money was recovered, the money is yet to be returned to Onyia, despite repeated requests.
