LG poll: Kwara Assembly confirms nominees for KWSIEC

In preparation for the conduct of local council elections across Kwara State, the House of Assembly, yesterday, confirmed the appointment of nominees for Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KWSIEC).

Appointment of the nominees was considered at the Committee-of-the-Whole chaired by the Speaker, Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, after thorough screening on the floor of the House.

The confirmed nominees include: Muhammad Baba-Okanla (Chairman), Frederic Abel, Hassan Taiye-Salami, Gbedeyan Yomi, Ndama Al-Hassan, Saka Kehinde and Abdullahi Amdat.

Fielding questions from lawmakers, Baba-Okanla promised to be impartial in the conduct of polls in the state.

He reaffirmed the resolve of the electoral umpire to provide level-playing field for participating political parties before, during and after elections.

A member of the commission, Taiye-Salami, charged the political class to always imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship to ensure hitch-free polls.

He assured the lawmakers of interfacing with credible civil society organisations (CSOs) and other relevant stakeholders to engender a transparent electoral process.

Reading the resolution of the house, the Speaker said the chairman and members were confirmed after thorough screening.

He, therefore, directed Clerk of the House, Halimah Kperogi, to communicate the notice of the confirmation to the governor.
