Ikeja monarch, community leaders insist on Illo for chairmanship position
Major stakeholders in Isolo Local Council Development Area (LCDA), yesterday, urged residents of Lagos State to take the scheduled council elections as a matter of must to participate and not to leave the exercise for money-bags or charlatans.
They decried the previous apathy of people to council elections, which, according to them, is supposed to be seen as the most important one that is closer to the grassroots.
RELATEDLY, traditional and community leaders in Ikeja Local Council have declared their support for Adeyinka Illo in the forthcoming chairmanship election and purchased the All Progressives Congress (APC) nomination form worth N5.5 million on his behalf.
The Regent of Ikeja, Adekunle Apena, disclosed this in his palace during Illo’s official declaration, appealing to party leaders and APC chieftains to endorse the aspirant as the party’s flag bearer for the poll.
Leaders in the Isolo LCDA, while speaking during a public rally held at Ilesanmi Street, Isolo, Lagos, where traditional chiefs, youths, market men and women, community leaders, artisans, as well as women and ladies within the community prevailed on the former Supervisor for Chieftaincy Affairs in Isolo LCDA, Wakilat Taiwo Agbabiaka-Ifigbe, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), to run for the chairmanship position in the coming council poll, said it was imperative of the people of the area to come out en-masse to participate in the process right from the primaries to campaign and election level.
The stakeholders identified Agbabiaka-Ifigbe as the one that is certain and capable of bailing Isolo LCDA out of its current despondency of maladministration and ineptitudes, saying that it is high time for the people to stand up and defend their choice of leadership, unlike those days when unknown and unaccepted leaders are foisted on them at the local level.
The Agbaakin of Isolo, Yahya Abiodun Lawal Arowooye, said Agbabiaka-Ifigbe has what it takes to succeed as a qualified public administrator of impeccable character and honesty, having served and proved her worth as an erstwhile supervisory councillor.
According to him, “for many years now, she has proven to be trustworthy and that’s the kind of person we need at the council to pilot our affairs.”
In her speech, Agbabiaka-Ifigbe accepted the call to serve and also expressed her delight over the overwhelming opportunity to serve the people of Isolo.
Apena said, “We, the community leaders in Ikeja and other stakeholders, have resolved to support our son of the soil, Adeyinka Illo, to succeed the current chairman, Mojeed Balogun, who is also from Ikeja. We are appealing to the party to consider our plight and anoint our candidate. That is why the community contributed funds to purchase the nomination form for him, to show our support.”
Also speaking, the Oluwo General of Ikeja, Lateef Oluwaseyi, urged the APC to back Illo, describing him as a tested and trusted individual familiar with the needs of the community.
In his response, Illo expressed gratitude to the traditional rulers, chiefs, and various community groups for their confidence in him.
He promised to focus on infrastructure and development if elected, calling for continued support for the APC to ensure victory at the polls.
