Litigations stall Anambra senatorial rerun election

Ezeemo wants electorate to consider fresh candidates

Following the different litigations arising from the proposed Anambra Central Senatorial rerun election, stakeholders have expressed concern over the delay of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), in fixing a fresh date for the rerun polls in the state.

The election, which had earlier been scheduled for 5th March 5, 2015, was later postponed indefinitely by the INEC, after the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) obtained an order of the Federal High Court, restraining INEC from conducting the election without the PDP.

It would be recalled that the Appeal Court, sitting in Enugu had last December annulled the election of Senator Uche Ekwunife of the PDP, and ordered for a fresh election.

Acting on the judgment, the INEC excluded the PDP and its candidate, over inappropriate primary election, while the APC candidate in the election, Dr Chris Ngige, said he has withdrawn from the race having been appointed a minister.

However, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APGA) Victor Umeh, and former governor Peter Obi, who have been touted as would-be candidates of the PDP, have been locked in a bitter rivalry, over who represents the zone at the red chambers of the national assembly.

Meanwhile, leader of the Progressive Peoples Alliance, PPA in Anambra State, Godwin Ezeemo, has called on the people of Anambra Central to reject old politicians, who have served in various offices before, and go for fresh personalities, if they want good result.

Speaking in an interview with journalists at his country home, Umuchu, Ezeemo stated that most of the politicians seeking to represent the people of zone have all been entrusted with public offices before.

He insisted that PPA has a very credible candidate in the person of Mike Igwilo from the zone adding,

“For us, we have presented Igwilo to the people of the zone, and if they need result, if they need someone who will deliver, then they must vote for him. All the other candidates have names, but they have disappointed us in their previous offices,” he added.
